15-30 DAYS BEFORE YOUR MOVE
|
Eliminate
everything you don't want to move. Prepare
an inventory of everything you plan to move. Determine
"replacement value" for insurance purposes. Notify
the post office that you are moving. Make
arrangements for medical or dental records, if necessary.
Inquire
about auto licensing and auto insurance, if moving out of state.
Notify
your children's school and make arrangements for records.
Close
any local charge accounts. Return
any local cable equipment> Obtain
any veterinarian records, if necessary.
Make
airline and hotel reservations, if necessary.

8-14 DAYS BEFORE YOUR MOVE
|
Return
anything you have borrowed and collect things you have loaned.
Transfer
bank accounts and safety deposit items. Arrange
to disconnect utility services Arrange
to connect utilities at your new residence. Arrange
to have appliances services for your move.

2-7 DAYS BEFORE YOUR MOVE
|
Dispose
of all flammables. Plan
articles that you will take with you in the car, toys for children.
Arrange
for shelves, TV antennas and any other items that you might take
with you. Pack
suitecases with clothing and personal items you'll need in your
new home. In
a special box, pack items you will need immmediately at your new
residence. Make
special cartons labeled "DO NOT MOVE" for items not
being moved.

THE DAY BEFORE YOUR MOVE
|
Take
down curtains and curtain rods. Empty
and defrost your refrigerator and freezer, let them air out at
least 24 hours. Clean
and air out your range, stove or oven. Plan
a simple breakfast for the next morning, (no appliances) and use
paper plates. Finish
packing your personal things (Leave out the alarm clock!)
Get
a good night's sleep and wait for Professional to arrive.

MOVING DAY
|
Remove
all keys from desks or safes and keep them in a safe place.
Strip
your beds, but leave them assembled. The moving crew can dismantle
them. Be
on hand when the movers arrive to answer questions and sign inventory.
Accompany
the foreman as he inventories your possessions to be moved.
Check
to make sure all of your appliances have been readied for transport.
Place
copies of the signed bill of lading and inventory in a safe place
in the new location. Be
sure the foreman has the correct delivery address, directions,
and phone number. Confirm
the expected delivery date and time with the foreman. Before
leaving the house check closite, cupboards, cabinets, and all
rooms. Make
sure that you have locked all doors and windows.
